Race and COVID: Our Community on the Frontlines - December 7, 2020
2020 has been a tough year, but the pandemic has hit some of us much harder than others.
In the summer we learned that 83 per cent of people with a reported COVID-19 infection identified with a racialized group, and Black/Caribbean people were impacted at a disproportionate rate compared to all other groups in the city. Despite this, we have not seen increased resources for our community.
The situation is not unique however, from the migrant workers in fields of Southern Ontario to the Haitian asylum seekers working in long term care homes of Quebec, Caribbean people have been put in some of the most dangerous and deadly situations in order to keep others fed and safe.
Monday December 7, 6-7pm EST Live-stream available on Youtube Channel and Facebook Page , for the first of three sessions dealing with the issue of race and COVID. We will be joined by Gabriel Alladuah of Justice 4 Migrant Workers and Carolina Jiminez of the Decent Work and Health Network to learn about the situation and what we can do to fight for better conditions.
