Community Forum: The Diaspora & Caribbean Politics
Join the Caribbean Solidarity Network and A Different Booklist Cultural Centre for a community forum that asks what is the role of the diaspora in Caribbean politics?
Across the region we see a number of crises, whether it is the uprising in Haiti, the political breakdown in Guyana, the ongoing impact of crushing debt in Jamaica, the selling out of islands to hotel chains, or the threat of climate change - and living in the diaspora we watch, often feeling helpless to act. This forum asks us does it have to be this way? What role can an organized Caribbean diaspora play in helping to shape and influence politics in a manner that reflects our desire for the region to break free and move beyond a blend of crisis management and ineffective two party politics? How can we work towards envisioning a system that actually responds to the needs of the people rather than foreign investors and a handful of their local partners?
Featuring Ajamu Nangwaya, lecturer of Rastafari and Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies and one of the founding members of CSN (via Skype)
It will be Live-streamed on Caribbean Solidarity Network Facebook Page.
